Rheumatology is the branch of internal medicine devoted to rheumatic diseases. This includes problems in the joints, genetic connective tissue disorders, and autoimmune diseases.

Diseases that may be diagnosed or treated by a rheumatologist:

Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, but can affect other joints.

Osteoporosis is a disease in which bone loss causes the bones to become weak and more likely to break.

Psoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory form of arthritis that can cause swelling, stiffness and pain in and around the joints.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes painful inflammation in the joints.
